Apple at 50: Business Lessons Learned
- Sometimes, innovation becomes too expensive for the average consumer. In 1983, Apple released the Apple Lisa, a personal computer that was incredibly advanced- but incredibly expensive! The average business could not afford to spend nearly £7000 on a computer, and the Lisa never took off. A year later, Apple released the first Mac for a much less eye-watering £2000, and it became a hit.
- Sometimes, prioritising one pain point over another will lead to an unpopular product. In an effort to make thinner laptops, Apple released the butterfly keyboard in 2015– but rather than being thrilled at the light-weight product, many customers complained that the hinged keyboard switches made typing difficult. Apple responded once again by learning from the mistake, and released the very popular MacBook Pro (minus butterfly keyboard) in 2019.
