Information Security Tips for World Password Day

World Password Day falls on 7th May this year — in honour of this important awareness event, the Lucid Technology Solutions team are sharing our top information security tips to support you and your business.

1. Always enable 2FA (two factor authentication) if given the option! This adds an extra layer of security that helps to protect your data.

2. Ask an IT professional like Lucid Technology Solutions about Unified Threat Management (UTM). This is a single piece of hardware or software that can provide multiple security functions to protect your network.

3. Use separate passwords for different accounts. It can be tempting to use the same password, or a variation of it, to avoid forgetting what you have chosen — but if a hacker correctly identifies it, all of your accounts can be compromised at once.

4. Always use a good antivirus software (a free one is not enough!) and educate your staff on common phishing scams.

5. Save your passwords to a secure password manager. This will allow you to use longer, more complex passwords, optimising security without relying on memory.

6. Keep your software and apps updated. Developers regularly create patches for known threats or weaknesses, so staying on top of your updates ensures that your software is as secure as possible.

7. Follow the advice for secure password creation from the National Cyber Security Centre. This includes avoiding predictable passwords like your name, or common phrases like the dreaded “password123”!

8. Talk to an IT professional about cyber security! The Lucid Technology Solutions team are here to help. From training your staff to offering 24/7 threat monitoring with our Security Operations Centre (SOC), we have you covered.
