The JLR Hack: The Facts
On 31st August, a cyber-attack hit Jaguar Land Rover. The subsequent chaos led to a five-week shutdown of JLR’s factories after the company had to shut down their IT systems. Plants in Solihull, Halewood and Wolverhampton were closed, leading to cancelled or delayed orders and a huge amount of uncertainty about the state of the supply chain in the upcoming months.

Reflecting on the devastation caused by the JLR hack, experts have now estimated that the damage it caused will cost approximately £1.9 billion — making this the most economically damaging cyber event in the history of the UK. The factories are beginning to reopen again in a phased approach, but the impact will be undeniably wide-ranging.
