WH Smith operates a number of concessions throughout both of Belfast’s busy airports however, the Airports CCTV provisions were not aligned with the needs of WH Smiths. A decision was taken to install their own CCTV into each of the concessions within the airport but this install had to overcome a number of obstacles in order to be successful.
- The installations had to be completed within a very strict time window.
- The install had to minimise disruption to the store concessions.
- The installers had to be pre-approved for work airside.
- Installation had to be to NSI approved standards to insure consistency.
Working in partnership with a facilities management company a team of Lucid’s installation engineers were sent to commence work on the project.
Client:WH Smith Concessions
Location:Belfast City Airport & Belfast International Airport
During install a number of challenges came to light that needed to be overcome. It became apparent almost immediately that each of the sites had not been thoroughly surveyed either due to restricted access or assumptions that all elements would be the same.
Ceiling voids for example were somewhat different throughout both airports meaning that mounting of cameras and poles to mount viewing screens could not always be carried out in the specified manner. Fortunately, the team were able to demonstrate our flexibility and experience along with a few spare parts carried in our vans allowing them to complete the works on time.
The clients CCTV’s were installed on-time in budget and without impact to the retail concessions.
