A new year brings excitement and opportunity, and as members of an industry that thrives on innovation, the Lucid team are all very excited for 2025. In this blog, we are making our predictions about the trends that we expect to see in the technology and cyber sectors this year.
Emphasis on Cybersecurity
After the global chaos caused by the CrowdStrike outages in July 2024, and the rapidly increasing sophistication and prevalence of malware and scams (as recently as January 8th, Google Calendar issued a red alert for a phishing scheme that was spreading rapidly amongst users), we are certain that cybersecurity will be paramount in 2025. We expect to see an increase in the implementation of 2 factor authentication for added security, and plenty of public campaigning around the identification and reporting of phishing.
The Implementation of AI
It is already becoming more commonplace, but AI engines like ChatGPT and Gemini are likely to be incorporated into the operations of many businesses throughout the coming months. There are plenty of attractive features, from instant availability to the elimination of human error, but there are still questions around reliability and long-term testing that simply have not been answered yet. We can expect to hear much more about AI in 2025, but we should also be aware that any new development in technology will have significant hurdles to overcome.
An Increase in Outsourcing IT
As many businesses seek to streamline their processes and optimise the efficient use of their resources, we expect 2025 to demonstrate an increase in outsourcing IT. There are many benefits to working with an external IT provider — it helps to reduce costs, allows a greater degree of flexibility, and enables you to focus on what your business does best.
